Ollerenshaw (Dame Kathleen)
Mathematician and politician who overcame adversity from a young age to become one of the most respected Mancunians of her age. Beginning her teaching career at the university as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, she would go on to hold some of the most illustrious positions in the city – including Lord Mayor of Manchester and the wonderfully named High Sheriff of Greater Manchester. She achieved all this despite being almost completely deaf by the age of eight. Daughter of Mary and Charles Timpson, Kathleen was born in Manchester, into a family which is now one of the biggest British companies established since 1903.

I recently attended an event at The Nest in Wythenshawe and what a fabulous venue it is. The design of the building is modern, stylish and thoughtfully laid out, creating a really welcoming and professional atmosphere. The facilities throughout the venue are excellent, with comfortable spaces and everything you need for a smooth and enjoyable event.
Natasha and her team were absolutely lovely — friendly, helpful and incredibly well organised. Nothing was too much trouble, and they made everyone feel welcome from the moment we arrived.
The catering was also outstanding. Both lunches were delicious, but the chicken curry on the first day was particularly memorable!
